A Challenge For The Ladies…But Also An Opportunity

February is days away, and the “Breathtaking~Spirit Filled Women of the Bible” series starts in seventeen days.

In honor of these events I am issuing a challenge.  If twelve different ladies leave a comment on this post before February 1st at 12:01am, I will bring an obvious woman’s touch to the layout of this blog for the entire month of February.

I’m talking butterflies, hearts and eighteen different shades of pink.  That means the background will be changed, the font will be changed and the colors will all be changed if twelve different ladies leave a comment on this post between now and the end of January.  Imagine it with me ladies: all my rants and raves and attempts at manliness–WOULD ALL BE IN PINK. That’s right!

Manly month is almost over.  “Breathtaking” is almost here.  And I’m throwing out the challenge.

Are you ladies up for it?  We shall see.

Oh, by the way.  If you fall short.  This blog is in full camo print during February!!!!

It Is Cold!

January 15, 2009

It is very cold outside today.

I’m not like Misty.  Misty follows the weather like a pigeon follows newly washed cars.  I don’t pay much attention to the weather or to weather reports.  If we had The Weather Channel (which we don’t) Misty would be glued to it.  She cares about the weather in Green Jeans, Oklahoma.  I don’t.  She gets excited when Pinto Beach, Arizona has a snowstorm.  I just don’t.

But on cold days like this my old bones ache and I scrunch my face up and I can’t help but notice the weather.

Misty tells me it is going to get colder here in Virginia and it made me start thinking about the people who don’t have coats and sweaters and jackets.

So, I’m writing today to encourage you to go through your closets and drawers and pull out warm stuff that you don’t wear or don’t need or maybe the Holy Spirit will move you to pull out stuff that you love and wear but deep down you know someone else might need more.

A few weeks ago we went through our stuff and I had 3 hooded sweatshirts.  One was really cool with “birds of prey” written on it and it was a really cool sweatshirt and Jesus told me to give it away and I tried to convince Jesus to let me give away one of my other hooded sweatshirts because they weren’t as cool and they didn’t have “birds of prey” on them and they weren’t as manly but Jesus told me to keep one that I needed and to give away the two coolest ones.  And then I went through my sweaters and I argued less and less and we eventually piled up quite a few jackets and sweaters and warm stuff.   And we gave them away to people who would give them to people who needed them.

Its very easy to forget that there are people living all around us that need warm clothes.   Some are homeless and some are living without heat and some are living with very little income so they only use the heat sparingly.  We are living in times when we just can’t justify hoarding stuff anymore.

So here’s what I’m asking: go through your closets and drawers, find some warm clothes and donate them to some local charities that can distribute them.  If you don’t know where to give them away, I know that Tree of Life’s mid-town ministry has plenty of people that they can give them to,  so you can call them or e-mail me at  wgrlaw.jasonqueen@gmail.com and I will put you in touch with someone.  Or you can call The Salvation Army or Daily Bread or any homeless shelter.

Here’s to keeping warm and helping others do the same!
